While the 2023 Lexus UX 250h looks the same from the outside as the previous model year crossover, it gets some important changes that should enhance ride and handling. It also gets upgraded safety systems and an all-new, much-improved infotainment system.
The 2023 Lexus UX adds 20 more spot welds, which work to make the entire body more rigid than before. This can help improve handling and ride quality and reduce in-cabin vibration by letting the suspension do its job better. The changes are enough that they required Lexus to re-calibrate the power steering and the shocks. Helping further reduce noise and vibration, Lexus has added new 18-inch run-flat tires.
The latest touchscreen-based Lexus infotainment system is offered with 8.0 and 12.3-inch screens. This is great news because it replaces the finicky touchpad-based system. Both screens have higher resolution than the older system, but the big changes are in how they operate. A new voice assistant allows "Hey Lexus" commands to control many of the system's functions.
Over-the-air updates and cloud integration allow for better traffic and routing guidance. Google point of interest data is also integrated to help you find and get to exactly what you're looking for.
Safety updates to the Lexus Safety System include a new camera and upgraded radar performance. This means enhanced Pre-Collision System response, boosting the system's ability to detect daytime cyclists and pedestrians in both day and low-light conditions. It can also detect oncoming vehicles at intersections if you're turning left, and pedestrians crossing both left and right.
New advanced artificial intelligence tech for the Lane Tracing Assist feature can now better recognize lane markings. Lexus says this boosts range and allows smoother steering assist. For the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lexus has added curve speed-control, a system that can slow the vehicle ahead of turns, based on how sharp they are.
Lexus has updated the two F Sport packages offered on the hybrid-only UX 250h AWD. The first, Series 1, adds new performance dampers with active variable suspension adjustable damping. The shocks are meant to enhance steering response (Lexus has added a steering brace to help with that) while maintaining ride quality. F Sport Series 2 gets the new dampers along with sports seats and gauges, adaptive front lighting, a 12.3-inch screen, and other cosmetic upgrades.
Pricing for the 2023 Lexus UX 250h AWD will be announced later. Expect it shortly before the model goes on sale at Lexus dealers in late summer.
