Mercedes-Benz today released details on another member of its new GLB-Class compact crossover model, the AMG GLB 35.
As the AMG label suggests, this is the first performance-oriented version of the GLB, a compact utility with optional three-row seating announced earlier this year as a 2020 model.
Like that GLB 250 model, the AMG GLB 35 uses a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine, but one tuned for 302 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, bonuses of 81 hp and 37 lb-ft compared to the GLB 250. Working with an AMG-tuned Speedshift version of Mercedes's eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, the AMG GLB 35 promises a 0–100 km/h sprint of 5.2 seconds.

The AMG GLB 35 also gets a more sport-oriented version of the 4Matic AWD system that can split power 50:50 front-to-rear or send all torque to the front wheels in fair conditions.
Mercedes's AMG Dynamic Select drive mode controller has five settings – Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual – to let the driver set the car up according to their mood. It works on the engine and transmission in all GLB 35 models, and also changes ride and handling settings in cars with an optional AMG ride control suspension.
Other AMG-specific bits include steering knuckles, front suspension control arms, and rear subframe and wheel carriers designed to balance handling performance with long-distance comfort.
Mercedes says the AMG GLB 35 is the first Benz 35-series model to get the AMG grille that sets the brand's performance models apart from more mundane trims. The GLB 35 gets numerous other exterior trim pieces, including 19-inch wheels that can be optioned to 20- and 21-inch sizes.
Like all new Benz models, the GLB 35 gets the company's MBUX infotainment system, with its "Hey Mercedes" voice prompt. MBUX can also be operated via touch control buttons on the GLB 35's sport steering wheel, which is trimmed in Nappa leather (perforated at the driver's grip areas) with red stitching and a flat bottom.
The 2020 Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 will arrive in fall 2020, following the GLB 250's launch in the spring. Pricing will be announced closer to that time.
